| A message from our principal, Mrs. Anne Knapke
Dear Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Family and Friends, Thank you to the many students and parents who joined together to prepare sandwiches in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. One thousand sandwiches were delivered to Manna on Main Street, the Cecil and Grace Bean Soup Kitchen, and the Lamb Foundation. The simple act of preparing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is a concrete example of how GMA 'Makes Mercy Real.' We are excited to be sending home our Winter 2017 GMA Newsletter this week, which highlights the innovation, stewardship, and accomplishments that have taken place the first half of this school year. Please be on the look out!

| Attention: Parents of 7th and 8th Grade Boys and Girls
Travis Manion Foundation is coming to GMA! Apply now for the Veteran-Youth Mentor Program. There are two parts to the application; both must be finalized in order for the application to be considered complete.
1. Complete the ViA Character Strengths Survey.
2. Complete the online application. Questions can be directed to Mrs. Connolly at bconnolly@gmaelem.org.

| Second trimester service for grades 6-8 at Spring House Estates will begin shortly and is open for registration until January 18th, with a limit of 12 students per week. There is no fee to participate. Service will be from 3:20-4:00 PM on January 26 (6th grade only), February 2, February 9, March 2 and March 16.
Students interested in brightening the day of the elderly residents at Spring House Estates are invited to join the Service Club. Click here to sign up.

| GMA Parents' Organization Sponsors 2nd Annual Trivia Night on January 27th! Join us for a fun night at GMA! Bring your knowledge and favorite snacks to this BYOB event. Parents' Organization will supply soda, water and a bottle of red and white wine for each table. Tickets are $25.00 each and you can specify other guests or grade levels of parents with whom you would like to be seated. The deadline to order is Friday, January 20th. Click here for tickets. | |

| GMA Used Uniform Sale will take place during Parent-Teacher Conferences, on 2/14 and 16 from 4:00-8:00 PM! This is a great opportunity to pick up a couple extras or get some laundry-softened shirts. Any questions can be addressed to GMA parent, Kate Moyer. | |

| Financial Aid Announcement: Please remember if you currently receive financial aid and/or if you are interested in applying for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year, the deadline for applying is this Friday, January 20th. All families who would like to be considered for financial aid for the 2017-2018 school year must submit an application through School & Student Services (SSS). You must provide supporting documentation (including most recent tax returns) directly to SSS.
This deadline will allow the financial aid committee to meet prior to the re-enrollment period. Therefore, your family will have a firm commitment from GMA regarding what assistance is available prior to making your re-enrollment deposit. We ask that you please begin this process immediately. | The time is now to sign up for Lavner Summer Camps at GMA to provide a whole new camp experience for your child! Lavner Camps will operate from June 26 through August 18, offering a wide variety of camp experiences for students ranging in age from 6-15 ! | |

| Notes from the Nurse's Office - Parents of students in Grades 2, 4 and 8, please complete the Annual Health Survey and send it to school with your child.
- An absence note must be given to the home room teacher after every absence. This note can be found on the GMA website on the Nurse's page. If you cannot print the form, please send a handwritten signed note including your child's name, homeroom and reason for absence.
- If your child is ill with fever, please keep him/her at home until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
- Please consider non-food items to share with your child's classmates for birthdays and special occasions. This may be a better choice in light of food allergies/dietary restrictions and promoting healthy eating habits.
- If you are going to be away, please notify school in writing or by email. Be sure to include the name, relationship and contact information of those who will be responsible for your child(ren).

| Mercy Connect Next date: January 25th! You can still sign up for Mercy Connect, a Math/ELA/Homework Helper Program where girls from Gwynedd Mercy Academy High School volunteer to come on Wednesday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:15 PM to assist children one-on-one or in small groups. Children in Grades 1 through 6 may participate. Click here to learn more about this program!
