Weekly Mercy Memo 02.08.17

A message from our principal, Mrs. Anne Knapke

Dear Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Family and Friends,

Our meteorologists have been warning us to prep for some winter weather tomorrow morning, so I want to take this opportunity to review with you our inclement weather procedures. In the event of inclement weather, we will assess the driving conditions around the Lower Gwynedd area as well as consider the delays and cancellations made by school districts that provide busing to GMA. It is our goal to make a decision as early as possible, weather permitting, and will alert our families through our One Call Now system and website. In most cases, we will only communicate a closing or delay. Safety is of utmost importance and driving conditions may differ from one area to another. If GMA is open and you do not feel safe transporting your child to school, please stay home.

The 2nd through 4th Grade students, led by Mrs. Hober and Mrs. Sweeney, have been putting forth great effort to prepare for this year's Rock-n-Roll themed Art Show. Currently, the performance schedule is this Thursday and Friday at 1:30 PM. In the event that inclement weather impacts Thursday's performance, we plan to communicate the rescheduled time.

Finally, please do not forget that today is the deadline for signing up for next week's Parent-Teacher Conferences. Our teachers are very much looking forward to meeting with you and your child to discuss progress and achievement this trimester. As soon as the conference schedule has been created, families will be notified of their assigned times.

Today is the last day to sign up for Progress Report Conferences which will be held on February 14 and 16 from 4:00-8:00 pm. A form must be completed for each individual student and conferences are required for grades K-3, but optional for 4-8. In grades 4-8, parents may conference with up to two teachers. The deadline for completing the request forms is February 8th. Students are required to attend with parents.

The GMA community enjoyed Catholic Schools Week to the fullest. After we celebrated parents, faith and faculty early in the week, we turned to our students, who enjoyed Matt Paul Sports, Gwynedd Bowl, a subject area and GMA trivia event for grades 4-8, Brent Daniel's Music Technology presentations for all students and the Faculty vs. 8th grade volleyball game.

Thank you to the Parents' Organization which provided funding for our enrichment activities (Matt Paul Sports and Bret Daniel's Music Technology) and supported the Broadway-themed faculty luncheon. Click here to see a slideshow.

GMA will celebrate its third annual Mercy Connections Day on Tuesday, February 14, during which time all students will gather in the gym to write Valentine's Day notes and compile gift bags for the people who receive services at our Mercy Connections organizations.

How can we fund this charitable activity? We are asking a $5 donation per child with a $10 maximum per family. Donations should be enclosed in an envelope marked "Mercy Connections" and given to the homeroom teacher by February 10th. Thank you for your support.

A box outside of the main office will be available during Parent-Teacher conferences to place any items to be donated to Family Bingo.

Author Visit Book Sale

Friday, 2/10, is the LAST DAY to order autographed books by visiting author, Jacqueline Davies. On March 7th, the Parents' Organization will sponsor a series of presentations from this award-winning children's author. Ms. Davies has eleven published children's books to her credit including The Lemonade War series. Click here to order.

It's time to sign up for GMA Spring sports!! If your child is interested in spring sports please sign up on our Spring Sports Interest form. Track and field is open to grades K-8. Baseball, softball and boys and girls lacrosse are open to grades 5-8.

GMA Used Uniform Sale will take place during Parent-Teacher Conferences, on 2/14 and 16 from 4:00-8:00 PM! This is a great opportunity to pick up a couple extras or get some laundry-softened shirts. Any questions can be addressed to GMA parent, Kate Moyer.
