Catholic Schools' Week 2010
Catholic Schools Week, which began on January 31st, had a 2010 theme of "Dividends for Life: Faith, Knowledge, Discipline and Morals." Throughout the week, our religion classes emphasized these values and we had many special activities to mark our role as a Mercy school.
Catholic Schools Week Mass - All members of the Gwynedd-Mercy Academy community were welcome to join us as we celebrated Catholic schools. The choir led us in song and at the conclusion of the mass, four GMA Alumni spoke briefly speak on the about the dividends they continue to receive as a result of their Catholic education.
Haiti Assembly - All students and faculty met in the gym to hear three guest speakers share their knowledge about Haiti. The guests included a 1st grade parent, whose family is from Haiti, a Sister of Mercy who recently spent time volunteering in Haiti and the Diocesan Director of Catholic Relief Services, who explained how our donations will be used.
Magic Shows for K-3 and 4-8
Faculty Appreciation Luncheon sponsored by our Parents' Organization and 8th grade students and parents. All faculty and staff have were invited to the 2010 GMA Hoe Down to "kick up their heels for Teachers' Appreciation Western Style." Service and entertainment was be provided by the 8th grade. The students, garbed in western dress, sang and danced to a wide variety of country songs, entertaining everyone in attendance.
Gwynedd Bowl was a big hit! This event, for students in grades 4-8, pit the red team against the gold team as students competed in areas of pop trivia, GMA trivia and curriculum content. There were even be a few physical challenges.
Dress Down for Haiti - All students dressed down by making a gift to Catholic Relief Services for Haiti relief. There was no set amount, this was a "Donate as you Choose" dress down day.
Faculty vs. 8th Grade Volleyball Game - The week built to a crescendo as students got pumped up for the annual faculty vs. 8th grade volleyball game. This is always one of 8th grade's best memories, even though, this year the faculty was victorious, retaking the crown.
