Gwynedd-Mercy Academy is home to students in three homerooms at each grade level. Students in kindergarten through 3rd grade remain with their homeroom teachers for core curriculum classes. The world language, music and creative thinking teachers conduct classes in homerooms, while students visit the gym, fine arts room, computer lab, art room and library for other enrichment classes. This arrangement affords the homeroom teacher the opportunity to know and best understand the learning style of each student, while allowing the students to experience other teachers in a variety of teaching styles. In grades 4 and 5, students begin to change classes, have subject-specific teachers in core curriculum classes and honors math and the Challenge Center become available.
When students move into their middle school years, grades 6-8, their classes are conducted in the Middle School Wing. They have subject-specific teachers for all classes. The curriculum broadens to include research, study skills, speech and health classes and each student is assigned an academic advisor. Opportunities for student leadership and extended learning abound through participation in Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, service, clubs, forensics, research projects and national scholastic competitions.
