GMA honors the Blessed Mother with annual May Procession!

On Friday, May 11th, the Gwynedd-Mercy Academy school community honored the Blessed Mother with its annual May Procession. Our second grade came to school dressed in their First Holy Eucharist dresses and suits and the Class of 2012 came dressed in their semi-formal graduation attire. Both classes played large parts in the May Procession prayer service, acting as readers and members of the May Queen's court.

We Welcome Grandparents and Special Friends!

On Friday, April 20th, Gwynedd-Mercy Academy hosted Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day for our kindergarten and first grade students. Our guests were able to enjoy a picture frame craft and a classroom visit, as well as light snacks provided by our Parents' Organization. All the kindergarten and first grade students entertained their guests with a few musical selections, including God Bless America and the Suscipe.

Kudos to all who participated in our Arts Show for Grades 5-8, "A Twist of the Tongue"

Congratulations to all our students in grades 5 to 8 who staged "A Twist of the Tongue," a musical comedy, on Wednesday, March 28th, and Thursday, March 29th. Under the guidance of GMA's Fine Arts staff, Mrs. Gale Egoville, Mrs. Regina Hober and Mrs. Jayne Viggiano, our actors, singers and dancers entertained their fellow students, family and friends with their talent and enthusiasm.

In particular, the 8th grade actors and chorus members showed remarkable poise and comedic timing, with a wonderful stage presence. Credit is also due to the 8th grade stage crew, assistant directors and dance captain who were critical behind the scenes.

GMA Winter Band Concert Hits the Right Note!

The Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Winter Concert, held on February 28, 2012, was a great example of what can be achieved with hard work, talent, determination and the guidance of a wonderful band teacher like Mr. Derrick Banks. The Beginning Band played several demonstration selections as well as several solos. The Advanced Band's performance included Pride in the USA, The Best of George M. Cohen and On Broadway. Mr. Banks noted that he was extremely pleased with the band's performance and was looking forward to a strong showing at the Archdiocesan Band Festival in April.

GMA Celebrates Catholic Schools Week!

Catholic Schools Week will run from from January 30th – February 3rd and Gwynedd-Mercy Academy has planned a full slate of special activities to celebrate.

Monday, January 30th – Catholic Schools Week opened with a liturgy celebrated by the Father Tim Lyons. Following the liturgy, several 5th grade students shared their reflections on the gift of Catholic education.

Tuesday, January 31st – Students in grades K-4 were treated to a presentation on Wacky Science. This special event features several different aspects of science. The audience learned what a polymer is and watched a brave volunteer make a giant batch of Slime with his bare hands! They were also amazed by the power of static electricity.

Wednesday, February 1st – All members of the faculty and staff were treated to a Beach Party Faculty Appreciation Luncheon, sponsored by our 8th grade student families and the Parents’ Organization. The student wait staff were very attentive, the food was delicious and the entertainment, live music provided by Libby Tacka and Patrick Tice-Carroll, accompanied by an 8th grade chorus was was excellent.

Thursday, February 2nd - The Gwynedd Bowl, a test of curriculum material intermixed with GMA trivia is always a fun-filled event for grades 5-8.

Friday, February 3rd - The student favorite, Faculty vs. 8th Grade Volleyball Game - all students and faculty came out for this very spirited event. The students’ enthusiasm raised the roof and rocked the gym as the determined 8th grade students took on the faculty. The faculty was victorious this year, but the gym was still filled when the student chant "Wait till next year" began.
