Incoming 3rd Grade
Below, the third grade teachers have listed books for incoming third graders. Your child is required to choose ONE book to read and then complete the two activities provided. On the “You Must Read This Book” activity, students should write a paragraph encouraging someone to read the book they chose. They should be sure to include details and information from the story and have at least 10 sentences. Your child may read other books listed for their enjoyment but only one is required.
- Point Guard Prank (Jake Maddox Sports Series)
- The Case of the Missing Cheetah (Secret Spy Society) by Veronica Mang
- Knight of the Cape (1) (Definitely Dominguita) by Terry Catasus Jennings
- Dragons in a Bag by Zetta Elliot
- Rosie Revere and the Raucous Riveters: The Questioneers Book #1 by Andrea Beaty
- Iggy Peck and the Mysterious Mansion: The Questioneers Book #3 by Andrea Beaty
Additionally, during the 3rd grade year, we will be building upon basic addition and subtraction facts, so we encourage you to work with your child over the summer on recalling these basic facts for speed and accuracy. Students should complete the 2nd-3rd Grade Summer Math Skills Sharpener workbook that was provided to practice their math skills. This book contains many hands-on manipulatives to reinforce math skills and fact practice. Completing a few pages each week will help keep your child's math skills sharp for the start of the school year.
Both the summer reading assignment and the math book should be completed and handed in on Book Day.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. We wish you a happy, relaxing, and safe summer and we look forward to seeing you in September.
Incoming 4th Grade
Summer Reading Assignment: The summer reading books are Planet Omar Accidental TROUBLE Magnet by Zarib Mian and Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Graberstein. Either book will fulfill the requirements, but your child is welcome to enjoy both novels. Your child should complete the comprehension packet for Planet Omar Accidental TROUBLE Magnet OR Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library. We are looking forward to celebrating both stories in September.

Incoming 7th Grade
Welcome to 7th Grade!
Our goals for the incoming 7th Grade ELA program include the following:
-
Foster a love for reading.
-
Inspire a talent for writing.
When you come to school in September, please bring a new copybook to class. The copybook will be used for grammar exercises (homework) and for journaling.
Your summer reading assignment is to read about 500 pages from quality novels. We know from experience that every student has different interests. Therefore, we are asking you to choose one of the following options:
-
Read two of the following four books: Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead, and All the Lovely Bad Ones by Mary Downing Hahn, Hero by Mike Lupica, The Seventh Most Important Thing by Shelley Pearsal, or Nightmares! by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller.
-
Read another appropriate middle school level book (or books) that amounts to about 500 pages of enjoyable reading. (Click here to review the 7th Grade Summer Newsletter which has reviews and suggestions from 7th grade students!)
Click here for more ideas: Sites like goodreads and Reading Olympics can be helpful.
We want you to enjoy your summer reading experience. When you return to school in September, you will be expected to show your mastery of your reading. This means that your new reading teacher will assess you with a quiz, test, five paragraph essay, or project. You must know your book (or books) very well in order to perform well on these assessments. We recommend that you use an index card to take a few bullet-style notes at the end of each chapter. This will help you to remember what happened. (These notes are optional, and they will not be collected.)
