Parent Coffee Talks

GMA sponsors Parent Coffee Talks on topics of interest to support student wellness.  Questions may be addressed to School Counselor, Susan Srogota.

To recognize Mental Health Awareness Month in May, we will be hosting a Speaker Series for Parents.  You are welcome to join us on Wednesday mornings on May 8, 15, and 22 from 8:30-9:30 AM in the Fine Arts Room for learning and discussion to support our students and families.  Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

May 8: Megan Lawler, LSCW, Owner and Clinical Director of Harmony Counseling

Topic: Parenting to Reduce Anxiety in Children

Ms. Lawler is trained in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), a clinical intervention focusing on work with parents. By intentionally and strategically reducing their own accommodations of their child or teen’s anxiety and OCD, families see the anxiety decrease significantly.

May 15: Kristen McGarvey, Educator, Speaker, Coach and Mom

Topic: Parenting in the Digital Age

K. McGarvey Presentations empowers K-12 students, parents, and staff to use technology in a healthy and safe way.   Our approach to digital citizenship and digital parenting focuses on practical, real-world, and realistic strategies to set our kids up for success.  

May 22: Lauren Gladstone, M.P.A., ACCG, PCC certified ADHD Coach and Parent Coach, Childhood Solutions

Topic:  Empowering Students and Parents with Executive Functioning Challenges

Ms. Gladstone focuses on helping clients create a calm environment, and manage chaos in order to help them gain control and balance for themselves, their child, and their family. She works with clients to learn about ADHD and executive function deficits as well as other diagnoses to provide practical knowledge, tools, and strategies to reduce anxiety and defiance. She works with groups, as well as 1:1 coaching for parents and students.
