GMA Mercy Memo 01.10.18 Dear Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Family and Friends, Thank you for your patience over the past several days as we have had to make judgement calls concerning recent inclement weather events. As I am sure all of our families understand, our decisions can be difficult. Within the 16 school districts that bus to GMA, we depend on the police and transportation officials to appropriately assess road conditions. While the safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always our preeminent concern, we are also mindful of the hardship that can be imposed on our families by late openings, early closings, and school cancellations. When making decisions about whether or not to delay or close school, we completely understand that parents in a wide variety of neighborhoods may have to make their own determination regarding the safe transportation of their children. As we have stated in previous communication, if at any time families feel uncomfortable transporting their children to school due to inclement weather, they should follow their own judgement and either take additional time or stay home.
This Monday, Dr. Martin Luther King Day, will be a school holiday. However, we will be participating in MLK Day of Service projects. We have many families who have graciously volunteered to make sandwiches that will be donated to Manna on Main Street and the Lamb Foundation. Our faculty and staff will be partnering with Inter-Faith Housing Alliance, a local non-profit organization that helps families overcome homelessness. We will be working together to sort, pack, and transport food to a new food cupboard as well as helping to clean apartments at Hope Gardens. Thank you to Liz Sher, our Mercy Connection Team led by Krissy Gonnella, and Inter-Faith Housing Alliance for helping to organize these important activities for our school community so that we can continue our mission to Make Mercy Real.
Lastly, please join us for our annual Trivia Night on Friday, January 26, beginning at 6:45 PM, for setup and games at 7:30 PM. This has become one of the favorite events among parents and faculty and we are grateful for our GMA Parents' Organization for organizing this activity full of fun and fellowship.
In Christ's love and mercy,
Anne W. Knapke, M.Ed. Principal

Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary will be partnering with the Travis Manion Foundation for the second year to bring their unique character development program to GMA. This program is for boys and girls in grades 7-8 and a limited number of students are accepted after submitting applications which include short essays. Last year's inaugural year of the program received tremendous positive feedback from students and families, so we are pleased and proud to be participating again this year. © 2016 Gwynedd-Mercy Academy Elementary |
